Therefore, this fungus can appear if you have a weak immune system, poor hygiene, diabetes or low pH levels in the skin. Make sure you don’t leave your feet soaked in sweat for a long time, or this infection will begin.

So, if the infection gets serious, it can result in splitting, cracking or even losing a toenail. Therefore, you should try treating it before it gets complicated. Why not try these cheap and natural remedies you can create at home?

10 Natural Home Remedies

1. Baking Soda

  • a quarter cup of white vinegar
  • half a cup of Epsom salt
  • 4 cups hot water
  • a quarter cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide
  • half a cup of baking soda

As the best remedy and easiest to obtain, the baking soda is perfect for treating this fungus. All you need to do is mix them together before adding the white vinegar. After that put the toenail in the mixture and soak it for 10 minutes. After it is over, wash it and dry it. Repeat this for a few weeks.

2. Lemon Juice

  • lemon juice
  • warm water
  • (optional) olive oil

Because lemon is full of citric acid, it serves as a powerful antifungal and antiseptic remedy. You just need to apply it on the toenail and leave it for 30 minutes. After that wash your feet and dry them off. However, you will need to repeat this process a few times a day for it to have the effect you need.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

  • half cup apple cider vinegar
  • half cup of water

This acidic remedy helps stop the fungus from becoming stronger and spreading, while it kills the fungi and bacteria that are already there. Just mix the ingredients together and let your feet soak in the mixture for 30 min before you dry them completely.

4. Listerine Mouthwash

  • white vinegar
  • Listerine mouthwash

Even though the mouthwash is used for removing any oral bacteria, it also can be useful for removing the toenail fungus. Soak the feet for 30 minutes and scrub the entire area carefully so you won’t hurt your affected toenail.

Wash it and dry it. You can repeat this remedy two times a day until the fungus completely clears.

5. Tea Tree Oil

  • few drops of tea tree oil
  • 1 tsp olive/coconut oil

This tree oil is great for removing the fungus because it has antifungal and antiseptic properties. Just mix the two ingredients and apply them on the toenail with a cotton pad. After 10 minutes wash the mixture with a toothbrush gently. Repeat the process 3 times a day.

6. Orange Oil

  • pure orange oil

Like the other oils, orange oil also has antifungal properties. However, if you are allergic do not use it, because it may cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. If you don’t have any problems with it, apply it on the affected toenail and even between the toes.

Let the oil rest for 30 minutes and repeat the same process 3 times a day until you get the desired result. However, this remedy is not as powerful as the previous ones. It takes persistence and dedication to remove this fungus with just orange oil.

7. Garlic Oil

  • garlic oil
  • white vinegar

Mix the same amount of the ingredients and apply the mixture on the affected area. After that, wrap the toenail with a bandage and let it stay for a couple of hours. Later remove it, wash it and repeat the process until it improves.

You can make your own garlic oil if you don’t know where to buy it. Just crush 2 cloves and mix them with 2 tbsp of olive oil. Later, drain the oil. However, you can use only 2 cloves a day.

8. Lavender Oil

  • 5 drops lavender oil
  • 5 drops tea tree oil

Mix them together and apply the mixture with a cotton pad. Let it stay for 10 minutes, wash it off and dry it. You can do this 2-3 times a day.

9. Oil of Oregano

  • 2 drops oregano oil
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

As before, apply the mixture on the infected toenail and let it rest for 30 minutes. Wash it and dry it. Do the same method once or twice a day for three weeks.

10. White Vinegar

  • 1 part white vinegar
  • 2 parts warm water

This remedy is ideal for restoring the pH value to the skin and stops the infection from spreading. However, there are different skin types out there. If you are allergic to the vinegar, don’t try this at home.

If you have no problems at all, mix the ingredients together and apply the mixture on the area. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes. You can do this 2 times a day until the fungus disappears.
